We have a stack of new features for you! We hope you like them!
Our SMS facilities are a world first!
WebAddress has launched a revolutionary service that integrates
your website with your cell phone. As far as we can
determine, we are the first web host in the world
to offer hosting accounts that include cell phone-enabled
email accounts based on your own domain name, as well
as our innovative "SMS Alerts" feature that
enables you to be notified via SMS when important
messages are delivered to any of your POP mailboxes.
Email-to-SMS
All accounts now come with email-to-SMS facilities. You can set
up cell phone-enabled email addresses like 12345678@you.com
where 12345678 is your full international mobile phone
number and you.com is your website address. When people
send an email message to that address, you will receive
the first 160 characters of the message on your cell
phone via SMS (Short Message Service).
Each SMS sent to your phone will cost you one SMS credit. We have
allocated three free SMS credits to each website we
host, so you can trial the service without paying
a cent. If you decide the service is useful then you
can buy more SMS credits via our "Buy SMS Credits"
page at http://customerhq.WebAddress.com.au >> Admin/Billing
>> Buy SMS Credits. Our SMS prices are extremely
competitive, and are available on the Buy SMS Credits
page.
To set up a cell phone-enabled email address simply visit the Email
Management section of the Control Panel and choose:
Create Email Address. After setting up your cell phone-enabled
email address, we highly recommend that you use SpamBoxer
(see below) to protect the address from SPAM messages,
since each SMS message sent to your phone will cost
you one SMS credit.
SMS Alerts for Urgent Messages
Make sure you know when important messages arrive Once you have
set up a cell phone-enabled email address, you can
scan mail coming in to each of your POP accounts to
see if it is important. If it is an important message,
then you can choose to have an SMS sent to your cell
phone so that you know the message has arrived. For
example, you could use SMS Alerts to send you an SMS
when messages from boss@somedomain.com arrive, or
could use SMS Alerts to send you an SMS when an order
arrives at one of your email addresses. With SMS Alerts,
you get to decide which messages are important.
Again, each SMS sent to your phone will cost you one SMS credit.
These innovative SMS services integrate your website with your
mobile phone. The possibilities are endless.
WAP Pages Supported
WAP pages enable you to make your website available to people through
their WAP-enabled cell phone. WAP pages are supported
on our servers. Unlike web pages, WAP pages are written
in WML rather than HTML. To create a WAP version of
your site you need to:
- write WML code
for each of your WAP decks (page sets)
- name the deck
file a .wml extension (e.g. mydeck.wml)
- upload the
deck to your site in ASCII transfer mode
- view it via
your WAP-enabled mobile phone, or a WAP emulator.
SpamBoxer: Fight
SPAM Your Own Way
SpamBoxer is our new anti-spam tool which you can use to protect
any POP account or cell phone-enabled email address
from spam (unsolicited email).
SpamBoxer is easy to use but provides an unprecedented level of
sophistication as an anti-spam facility in a web hosting
environment. You can customize the way it works. You
decide what messages should be treated as spam, and
you decide what to do with messages marked as spam
- you can either delete them or have them set aside
in your "SpamBox" for up to 14 days. By
regularly reviewing your SpamBox you can be sure that
no legitimate messages are being discarded as spam.
This way, you can reduce the amount of spam arriving
in your mailbox, while still being certain that no
genuine messages are being lost.
You can block spam based on any mixture of the following:
- SPAM recognition
software - the actual content of each message is
analyzed and the message is assigned a score to
determine how likely it is to be spam. You can choose
to block messages based on the level of that spam
score.
- Blacklists
- you can block mail based on any or all of the
following anti-spam blacklists: SpamCop, ORDB, Osirusoft,
SpamHaus SBL, DNSRBL and the Distributed Server
Boycott List (DSBL).
- Custom Filters
- block messages based on your own rules. For example,
you can choose to block all mail from spammer@somedomain.com.
SpamBoxer is very easy to use and provides you with world-class
anti-spam protection.
New Mail Tools
The Email Management section of the Control Panel now includes
some new tools to make managing your POP accounts
even easier:
- eReminders - this handy
tool allows you to schedule reminders which will
be sent to the email addresses that you specify.
- Reset your
passwords - you can reset the password on any POP
account. If you reset the password on your catch-all
POP account, the change will also apply to your
FTP/Telnet/SSH/ http://customerhq.WebAddress.com.au
login details
- Mailbox Cleanup
- enables you to delete messages without having
to download them first - a great way to get rid
of those unwanted large messages
- Diagnose POP
Problems - if you are having trouble downloading
your mail then the "Diagnose POP Problems"
tool should be your first port of call - it will
analyze the login information available and send
you an explanation of what is going wrong. In some
circumstances it will even automatically fix the
problem for you
Our servers are now scanning incoming and outgoing mail for viruses.
Our system will:
- Block thousands
of known viruses (such as BugBear, Klez etc)
- Block virus-like
attachments
Attachments that end in any of the following are dropped:
adp,bat,com,cpl,lnk,pif,reg,scr,shs,wsc,wsf,wsh
Those are the ones that are both dangerous and unlikely to be sent
for any valid reason.
Attachments that end in any of the following are NOT being dropped
but a warning message will appear in the main message
advising the recipient that opening the attachment
could be dangerous:
exe,cmd,jse,sct,shb,url
The reason these are not being dropped is that we believe it is
likely that the files would be sent for valid reasons.
Regardless of the above rules, an attachment may be dropped if
it appears to be dishonestly reporting itself. For
example, a .exe file with a content-type of .wav,
.jpg, etc would be dropped automatically. These need
to be dropped because they can infect a machine without
the person explicitly choosing to open them. Also,
it is extremely unlikely that this sort of filename/content-type
combination would be used for a valid reason.
Finally, while the overwhelming majority of messages passing through
our servers are scanned thoroughly for viruses, please
note that the following limits apply:
- Messages larger
than 2 MB are not scanned - scanning very large attachments
is extremely resource intensive so is not appropriate
in a shared hosting environment. Please note however,
that the vast majority of viruses are spread in
files smaller than 2 MB.
- If a message
contains 4 or more binary attachments, then only
the first three are scanned. Again, this
is a necessary limit to prevent overuse of resources,
and we anticipate that it will affect very few messages.
